2017 Hyundai Grand i10 launched with more powerful diesel motor

Hyundai has updated it’s excellent, but under-appreciated hatchback, the Grand i10 to bring it in line with customer expectations. Back when it launched in 2014, the Grand i10 was a genuine contender, with a good complement of features and quality, and a surprisingly competent 1.1-litre U2 diesel engine. That engine is now 1.2-litres, and generates 75PS, up from 70. Torque is up significantly, at 190Nm, up from 160Nm. The 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine remains in the lineup, generating 83PS and 113.8Nm.

Visually, there’s little to differentiate the new Grand i10 from the outgoing model. The most visible are the new “cascade design” front grille, front air curtains for aero, LED DRLs, and the on-trend “Diamond Cut” alloys. There’s some molding on the sides as well as a dual-tone rear bumper.

There wasn’t much to complain about in the outgoing Grand i10 interior, but Hyundai have updated it anyway. You now get a 7" touchscreen AV system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link, ensuring that every smartphone will be able to integrate. Voice recognition is available via a dedicated button on the steering, as is navigation. A new rear parking camera also integrates with the screen, and automatic temperature control with rear AC vents are now available.

In typical Hyundai fashion, the list of features is long and exhaustive, including dual airbags, rear defogger, button-start, a cooled glove box, driver’s seat height adjustment, among others.
