Aprilia launches SR150 Race scooter in India
Minor premium gets you MotoGP-inspired graphics and quicker acceleration
Less than six months since Aprilia launched the SR150 sports/crossover (their terms, not ours) scooter in India, comes the new SR150 ‘Race’. Essentially a cosmetic variant using decals inspired by the Aprilia RS-GP MotoGP bike, it does come with revised gear ratios for the CVT, which should make it accelerate quicker. Riders will feel it in the first 200m, officials claim.
“The great response we got when we introduced the SR150 in India last year gave us the confidence that the market is now ripe for change,” — Stefano Pelle, Managing Director and CEO — Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited
At ₹70,288 ex-showroom, Mumbai, the SR150 Race is about ₹3000 more expensive than the standard model. The rest of the specifications remain common, including those large 14" wheels, aggressive street tyres, 220mm front disc brake, and telescopic front fork.
“The great response we got when we introduced the SR150 in India last year gave us the confidence that the market is now ripe for change,” said Stefano Pelle, Managing Director and CEO — Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited, at the event. The company is a good example of the sensitivities of the Indian consumer. All indications are that expensive scooters should be a losing proposition against mass-market leaders like Honda with its Activa. However, the number of Vespas on the road should be an indicator that Piaggio appears to be bucking the trend.
We hope to see more aggressive products like the SR150 in India.
