Ducati has sold 1000 bikes in India
Five new models to come in 2017
With 18% growth in 2016, Ducati claims to be on a good wicket in terms of numbers. Over the period of 2015 and 2016 — their second innings in India — Ducati has sold 1000 motorcycles in the country. Unsurprisingly, the Monster and Diavel line of motorcycles have been their top sellers, with a 19% and 17% share of their sales respectively. While their release mentions no absolute numbers, we hope — for their sake — that they’re healthy.
A highlight of Ducati’s recent communication has been that the “Adventure Touring” category “grew by 127% in 2016 with the Ducati Multistrada 1200 taking a staggering 89% share of the category.” This is apparently based on numbers reported by manufacturers to SIAM, a trade body. The segment excludes cruiser and sport-touring motorcycles, leaving only adv-style bikes. By our count, this makes for a small number of distinct models in the country including the Triumph Tiger Explorer, Suzuki VStrom, Aprilia Caponord and Kawasaki Versys 1000.
There’s a significant caveat here: Ducati themselves do not report numbers to SIAM and reporting is voluntary, so we don’t really know which other competing motorcycles reported numbers to be compared with.

Also worthy of note is that Ducati claims to be launching five new models in 2017. We’ve been told that all the five new models they showcased at the EICMA motorcycle show will make it to India, including the Scrambler Desert Sled, the Scrambler Cafe Racer, the Multistrada 950, the SuperSport and the Monster 797. All these new models are more accessible than exotic, and should make for some interesting choices for big bike buyers in 2017.
